Gloobus Preview not working for Office files (doc and xls)

Asked by Jeff

When I try and preview Office files (i.e. .doc, .docx, .xls, etc.) all I get is a small file details preview with an error that says, "Error: Error converting file to pdf".

See screenshot: http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/6808/screenshotik.png

Gloobus Preview works fine for images, folders, pdf and txt files.

I am using an up-to-date version of Gloobus Preview via Elementary PPA (https://launchpad.net/~am-monkeyd/+archive/nautilus-elementary-ppa) on Ubuntu 10.04.

installing the "unoconf"-package works for me.
don't know why it is not a dependency.

I'm unable to find "unoconf" packaged. Can you please give me some more detail on where I can find? Thanks!

sorry, it is the "unoconv"-Package. It is in the universe-repository.

Installing the "unoconv" packaged and then rebooting my computer fixed this long overdue problem. Thanks Lukas!

I do not have the unoconv package installed, but I still get the exact same error as shown in the screenshot included with the bug.

I don't really understand your problem. you have to install unoconv to avoid the error.

Oh god I'm stupid. I misread that as uninstalling the unoconv package.

My sincerest apologies.

yes, adding the 'unoconv' has worked for me. I had the same problem and now it has gone. So thank you Lukas for the help ) Really, why they didn't add this package to dependencies?? It could have saved some time and emotions...

I have this problem, how do I add the "unoconv"-Package, and where is the 'universe-repository' ?

Thanks

Andy.

Andy,

1. Open up Synaptic Package Manager via "System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager".
2. Click "Settings" and then "Repositories".
3. In the Repositories window you should see sources for "main", "universe", "restricted", and "multiverse".
4. Click the checkboxes next to the sources you would like to enable (I have all of them enabled).
5. Click "Close" and then click the "Reload" button.
6. Search for "unoconv" via the Quick Filter box.
7. It should show up in the list of available packages, if so, install it.

Hopefully that solves your problem. If not, let me know.

doesn't work for me. Ubuntu 11.10

Just added unoconv and restarted, but I just see the symbol W for Word Documents or the LibreOffice Symbol if opening with gloobus.

What can it be?

Thanks
Tobias

Adding unoconv did not work for me either in Ubuntu 11.10. It still says "Failed to convert to PDF."
