Is it possible to support FIFO named pipes and other special files in FreeFileSync?

Asked by Norbert

Hello, Zenju!

Thank you for FreeFileSync program. For me it is mature as Midnight Commander. I'm on Ubuntu 12.04.3 with FFS 5.21.

Recently I started to use it for comparison of Linux rootfs backups and sync.
It works great, but there are some problems with special files.
I have the following Error messages:
* Error Type of item '/lib64/splash/cache/.splash' is not supported: 0010000, FIFO, named pipe
* Error Type of item '/var/nmbd/unexpected' is not supported: 0140000, socket

Can you support these file-types in FreeFileSync?

Not sure if it's worth the hustle. Is this just for completeness or is there some reason you need pipes and sockets replicated?

The reason is to be able to replicate the whole rootfs with help of FFS, it has good status graphs, which indicate current speed and number of items to be synced.
For now FFS does not support FIFOs and sockets and I need to use other program to copy them (for example, Midnight Commander or Krusader).

If you have time, please add FIFO and socket replication to new version of FFS.
I think other users (not only me) will be happy with this addition too.

I love using FreeFileSync.
I would like to see this addition too.
This is the only problem I've had using this great program.

I think, it would be nice to include all files: inclusive fifo-/pipe-files.

Can you help with this problem?
