Thanks for your question.

You'll find a quite good explanation on that issue at http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Port_is_blacklisted.

To tell you how to change the default port, we'll need to know which bittorent client you're using.

1) Open Applications->System Tools->Configuration Editor
2) Change to apps->gnome-btdownload->settings
3) Change max_port and min_port to another port

now this is ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake i386 i'm using, and when i go to applications->system tools-> there is no "configuration Editor" there. There is just
Automatix 1 and Automatix2, Floppy Formatter, and Sys Info.

You can launch the configuration editor by typing this in a terminal:

gconf-editor

I opened Terminal and type gconf-editor and i get the configuration editor for bit torrent.
I go to apps->gnome-btdownload->settings. Now the next step i was to take was 3. changed max port and min port to another port. BUT All i get is:
/apps/gnome-btdownload/settings/cap_upload
Whether or not to cap the number of uploaders
True to limit the number of uploading peers to the number specified in cap_upload_peers, false for no limit

There is nothing about ports here

More Questions on ports: I was trying to download more than 1 file at a time using the bittorrent program in Feisty Fawn which i just upgraded to and i got this error message everytime:

¨Couldnt listen (98, ´Address already in use´)

Can some one help me to figure out how to change ports for downloading multi-media files, plus what are the listening ports and why is it now that i can evidently only get 1 file at a time. When i was using Dapper Drake i could download up to 8 or more at a time depending on how much RAM i had?
Thanx very much in advance.

Also, i am not using Azureus torrent program so that link that Markus Thielmann gave me does not help. I am using the Bit Torrent program that comes installed in Linux.

I´m sorry that i misunderstood what backport meant. When i asked my updated question the Launchpad system asked me some questions about which package etc, and then somewhere this term ´backport´ came up and i said ´yes´ and now that i looked it up i see it refers to something other than downloading ports :-)

Are you using a firewall ?

Why don't you switch to a better known torrent client, like azureus or ktorrent ?

You should always try to install software from the package manager first. You don't need to go to internet website to download most of the software (and shouldn't)

Here is a howto on how to install software on Ubuntu:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingSoftware

Basically you first try with the add/remove
If you don't find there you should try the synaptic package manager
And if you still don't find there (rare) then you search on internet.

Can you help with this problem?
