Docky

not showing up all the way

I am running XFCE (this is the first distro of any kind i have ever used) and when i start Docky it only shows up half way. To explain further, when i drag and drop a icon, it shows about two inches of Docky and icons are cut in half. It does not allow me to scroll over to reach these cut off icons. I noticed after I installed it had a small text pop up saying that there may need to be something configured. This may not be exactly what it said as the text came and went in a flash.
Also, is there a way to make the icons "pop up" when you scroll over them? (like it does in one of the mainstream operating systems)
Well, I hope this makes sense, as i said before i am a complete "virgin" when it comes to open source and open source installs! i also would like it to be known that Docky is the first program I have had any luck installing! And for that, I thank you!

I got this on Ubuntu 9.10 too. I had to enable 'compiz' to get it working. On Ubuntu that's done using the 'Appearance' application in the 'System'-menu. There's a tab for 'Visual Effects' where I need to select something other than 'None'. XFCE/your distro might have something similar.

I think it is because of fake transparency/emulated transparency. You will need a compositor to make it work properly, but it's not sure. Under XFCE i don't know any compositor, but it's because of i don't use XFCE usually. ixquick will help you! :)

Docky will work fine with xf4wm (xfce's window manager). You just need to
enable compositing. I don't use xfce, but try this post on ubuntuforums to
enable compositing in xfce:

Also, docky doesn't strictly need compiz. Metacity (default gnome window
manager) with compositing enabled works fine as well.
