my wireless icon is not on the info panel

there used to be a wireless icon on the top pane. the wireless icon is no longer there. the dell conects to the wireless but no signal strength icon either. Any ideas?

Do you see the battery icon? It may be possible that the notification window may have been removed.
(to enable it, right click on the top panel and select "Add to panel" From the possible applets, drag and drop the "Notification window into the top panel)

Many thanks it worked. I had made the mistake of adding things like network manager and bluetooth to the panel and that caused the problem.
