What is the switch in the top bar (right) for?

There is a sort of switch at the right hand side of the top bar
but with no description and no pop-up hint.
It just seems to change the width of the window; nothing else?
What is it really good for?

Hello! I bet you are on an older version. That controls whether automatic backups are enabled. Newer versions bring that into the window with a label describing it.
