Why does Déjà Dup no longer ask gives me the opportunity to password-protect my backup when backing up to Google Drive?

Asked by Maxime St-Laurent

Trying to use Déjà Dup along with Google Drive. Currently using version 40.6 on Ubuntu 18.04, since the version installed with Ubuntu had an authentication issue for large backups. However, this new version does not allow me to password-protect my backup; why?

Deja Dup will continue using encryption or not depending on what's already in the target storage location folder. It only asks whether you want to encrypt or not when making your first backup.

If it's adding on to an unencrypted backup and you want it to be an encrypted backup, try specifying a new storage location folder?

It looks like the issue has been fixed since I asked my question; I successfully created an encrypted backup yesterday.
