Missing keep period of < 6Mths

Asked by Blake Douglas

Hi,

I'd like to reduce the keep period to <6Mths, e.g. 1Mth, 2Weeks but the smallest duration available is 6 Months.

I found this askubuntu article from '13 but would prefer to check this forum first.

I'm running DD v37.1, on Fedora 28.

Hello Blake.

Please keep in mind, that Déjà Dup does make full backups only on a timespan of around 75 days (if you use the same version like me and did not change setting within gsettings, which would be unsupported if I remember correctly). In between these full backups Déjà Dup performs incremental backups, which means that only changes of your data between the last backup are stored. Additionally it aims to store 2 full backups at any time to prevent the event that a broken full backup prevents you from loosing all data. With an older full backup you have a fair chance of getting back all the data, which you did not touch for a long time (e.g. your photo collection).

This has the result that a period of 1 month or 2 weeks makes no sense at all. This would be below the timespan of 2*75 days and is thus technically impossible to do.

Best Regards

Vej
