How do you tell DD where you wish the backup file to be located?

Asked by Richard Lilley

I can't find any "how to's", like asking DD to put the backup files on my nas for instance, or a usb connected drive.
I would prefer to be able to backup onto my nas, and to exclude some files like those labelled "Temp" etc.
I am a newbie to linux, and I do appreciate all you folks who labour over this software.
So thank you for that.

I am frustrated by not being able to find a linux backup program that is as powerful and easy to use as some of the paid Windows software though.

Hello Richard,

you can set the location in the tab "Storage location" of the preferences, which can be opened by typing "Backups" in the search field of the dash.

Your external usb connected drive should show up in the drop down menu "Storage location" in that tab.

The nas might show up there as well, depending on your way to connect to that device. Otherwise you need to the appropriate access methods (like FTP or WebDAV) matching the way you want to connect to your nas.

Best Regards
