Deja-dup gives me "Failed with an unknown error"

Asked by Sandra Pakin

Using Ubuntu 10.04. I successfully used Deja-dup a few weeks ago. Today, it fails. Using an external HD, I am able to create a folder in the partition. It has 157 GB free; my home folder is 35 GB. I reinstalled Deja-dup. I tried running Deja-dup from terminal and it displays the following in the terminal:

Try enabling the proposed repository until the fix lands in 10.04 (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed).

After enabling lucid-proposed I'm still experiencing a very similar problem.
Details: 10.04 64bit, external eSata drive, was working before. Running Deja Dup 14.2 from PPA: http://ppa.launchpad.net/deja-dup-team/ppa/ubuntu

Running from command line I see:
** (deja-dup:13151): CRITICAL **: deja_dup_duplicity_cmp_prefix: assertion `b != NULL' failed
(the above many times)

DEBUG: DuplicityInstance.vala:199: Running the following duplicity (13154) command: duplicity [RK: params removed]
** (deja-dup:13151): DEBUG: DuplicityInstance.vala:552: duplicity (13154) exited with value 0

** (deja-dup:13151): DEBUG: DuplicityInstance.vala:199: Running the following duplicity (13175) command: duplicity [RK: params removed]
** (deja-dup:13151): DEBUG: DuplicityInstance.vala:552: duplicity (13175) exited with value 1

See the linked bugs for possible workarounds, the following helped me, as I believe my problem was with a interrupted backup:

Delete everything in ~/.cache/deja-dup then rerun.

I had a similar problem, from the gui.
I went to the ~/.cache folder, and saw the files were quite large, and probably wouldn't be such a great idea to delete. There were 2 files, however, dated later than the others (I had been running it for a few days) so I just deleted those, and it's backing up now.

Ah, I do recall - I told ubuntu to safely remove my external HD, forgetting a backup was in progress, and it complied. So I suppose we both had interrupted backups.

Avi's suggestion worked for me. I noticed that there were two files in there that ended in .part, I'm assuming these are from uncompleted backups. I use a USB external drive, and I probably did either removed it or had to do a hard reset (my graphics card causes my system to hang when I try to shut down).

Can you help with this problem?
