Campatibility with Unity

Asked by Lee Hyde

Greetings All!

As I understand it, the next release of Ubuntu will likely be using Unity as its default shell. As Unity does not presently support standard gnome-panel applets, and is unlikely to for the foreseeable future, do you (the developers) intend to ensure compatibility with the Unity shell?

As far as I am aware, unity only supports indicators. I'm thus not sure how one might go about porting a menu applet like Cardapio to the indicator specification, which in terms of UI elements seems rather limiting (at least at the moment). It may not be appropriate to even port a menu applet such as Cardapio to Unity, given its dock/dashboard feature, but it would be nice to know for what your thoughts are regarding Unity support.
