Garbage text in SSH session

Asked by Ryan Kaskel

I am using:

$ byobu --version
Screen version 4.00.03jw4 (FAU) 2-May-06

I am using a custom .bashrc file where I change the prompt formatting. That being said, I can't replicate the errors in screen itself and it doesn't happen in gnome terminal.

When I SSH into a server, then do a reverse search in the shell for a command I need to run, the end of the line stays on the screen despite cancelling the search. The best way to explain this is with screengrabs:

1) Right after reverse searching: http://www2.ryankaskel.com/misc/images/screenshots/screen_garbage_text_20110128.png

2) Notice the rightmost text stays in the window: http://www2.ryankaskel.com/misc/images/screenshots/screen_garbage_text2_20110128.png

Of course bash is weird, and it may be because of my own .bashrc, but it doesn't happen elsewhere.

Best,
Ryan

I think it has to do with the screen size.

Which version of byobu are you running?

byobu -v

Can you try pressing F5 to resize and refresh the window?

I use the PPA and just upgraded the to the latest version this morning.

$ byobu -v
byobu version 3.27
Screen version 4.00.03jw4 (FAU) 2-May-06

So, whatever version was released before 3.27 via the PPA.

F5 doesn't do anything but after entering the configuration menu to change to the F keys, it went away.

It also went away if I resized the window (metacity/compiz in Ubuntu 10.10), it goes away.

Can you help with this problem?
