Gconf error launching gedit from within byobu.

Asked by Andrew

I am getting a screen full of:

GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Error connecting: Connection refused) and then gedit loads, though without my preferred colour and font size.

when I launch gedit from within a byobu screen session. If I launch a terminal by Alt-F2 /bin/bash (run in terminal) and then launch gedit from there I don't see these errors.

Similarly, I get a

** (gnome-terminal:5484): WARNING **: Failed to connect to the session manager: Could not open network socket
when i try to launch a gnome-terminal from within a byobu session.

Is something misconfigured that could be causing this? Byobu -v returns
byobu version 3.5
Screen version 4.00.03jw4 (FAU) 2-May-06

I am running 10.10 desktop, recently upgraded from 10.04.

Is this over SSH? If so, are you using ssh -x?

Is this a brand new byobu session, or are you reconnecting to an old one?

Hello Dustin

It was not over SSH. I think I was reconnecting an old session, however I was unable to reproduce this... byobu/screen/gnome is working as intended. If I can figure out what caused the problem perhaps I'll post here, but I'm going to mark this as 'problem solved' as I don't need any more help at this time.

Thank you for developing byobu, I've used it for years, I use it every day, and it makes my screens easier and more useful.
Regards,
Andrew.
