Installation into home directory

Can I install completely into my home directory using tarball on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4?

Use:

http://people.canonical.com/~kirkland/byobu.tar.gz

Untar in your home directory (will overwrite your screenrc), and then
just run "screen". You'll get about 95% of byobu's functionality.

Grab the RPMs from Fedora and install them.

Thanks I will probably do that instead. Are there up-to-date versions available? If not, are there major differences?

Thanks but it looks like these servers don't meet the requirements for those packages. I'll try to get them upgraded but in the meantime I'll guess I'll just use the 95% option.
