kubuntu awn-extra applet installation

Asked by stevan

I'm using Kubuntu 8.04 (2.6.24-21-generic) and I've installed awn and awn-manager from ubuntu hardy repository.
I found that after installation there is no applet. I only able to add launcher. I wanted to add applet like trash, digital clock. After i googled i found an interesting source. It's awn-extra. But when I try to install those applet i get stuck with pycairo package. I tried installing python-cairo and python-cairo-dev but the configure keep asking for the pycairo package. And it's says something like this :

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
checking for PYCAIRO... configure: error: Package requirements (pycairo >= 1.0.2) were not met:

Package cairo was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `cairo.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'cairo', required by 'Pycairo', not found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables PYCAIRO_CFLAGS
and PYCAIRO_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

I hope someone could help my problem. Now, it seems to be impossible to run awn applets on kubuntu...

We recommend that people using Ubuntu use our PPA for installation purposes:
