It is not possible to give instructions that work for all cases.

tar is a file format to compress and combine several files into one file (comparable to a zip file as used also in Windows)

It very much depends on what the contents of that tar file are; where is your tar file from, what are its contents?

1. look for a file with instructions inside the tar file (e.g. readme, readme.txt, readme.htm etc.) and follow the instructions
2. look for an install script in the file (e.g. install.sh or similar) and try executing it
