Password Software-download

I want a free software from software-center.
I enter my root PW, which works fine in terminal mode.
However my Password is not accepted.
Is there a way of getting the software by hand (or foot) ?
can you give me the proper commands i. e. apt-get .. , make .. , install ..?

Try

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install name_of_the_package

thanks for your prompt answer. But now I realize I cannot go this way because the Ubuntu-Software-Center doesn' t show the name of the packages but only the german title. In detail the error-message of the GUI of the Software-Center is this:

org.freedesktop.PolicyKit.Error.NotAuthorized: ('system-bus-name', {'name': ':1.61'}): org.debian.apt.install-or-remove-packages.

Please provide the output of the following diagnostc commands

uname -a
lsb_release -crid
sudo apt-get --reinstall install software-center software-properties-common software-properties-gtk

Ubuntu 14.10 is not supported any more, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases
You have to upgrade to a supported Ubuntu release.
