Not a Valid Theme for Gnome on Gentoo?

When dragging the .tar.gz to the Appearance Preferences in Gnome on Gentoo Linux, I get the following error:
"New Wave does not appear to be a valid theme"

Any suggestions?

You should extract the archive first because it is a theme pack not a single theme. It contains 3 theme and several other extras.

Can you help with this problem?
