Another Question about Backround Services.

Asked by Excedio

Can the entry in the Notification Panel be activated/appear only when Background Services are running? It doesn't seem quite right having that there if Background Services are not running since if you are not actively using the App (Items List or Menu) it's not "connected."

I see your point. U1Service notification is quite fresh and needs to be discussed upon (you can join #androidu1 on irc.freenode.net to talk to me and fellow beta testers).

Although U1Service (in in both persistent and non-persistent mode) holds a connection to Ubuntu One servers [and will, in near future, reconnect if necessary], indeed it doesn't perform an ongoing task like Music Player or a Phone Call.

I understand it should show the notification when:
- it's connecting (disappear after connection)
- is uploading / downloading (leave notification)
- sync'ing (leave notification)

I'll leave the question open so that we know this needs discussion. Well spotted, thanks.

PS I'll have an option in preferences to hide the notification. e.g. in non-persistent mode it's pretty obvious U1Service will start with the app, and shutdown with the app, too. However, you may not know that from some Android ~2.0+ version developers should leave an icon for ongoing background services. Users may not an expecting connection. Although I expect little usage (just server notifications), I will constult it.

Yes, I'm working on it. And the notification area will still improve in it's use by AndroidU1.

Can you help with this problem?
