Does HDMI out work?

Should the hdmi out "just work" in general, or is some tinkering required?

I have an AC-100 set up with noxdm and lxde in the style of the ubuntu de-ubuntuization guide on the wiki. The kernel can see an hdmi cable connected to an external monitor being plugged in, but lxrandr (or grandr) only register the laptop screen. Logging out and in/booting with the external monitor attached has no effect.

You need the binary nvidia driver for HDMI output to work.

(BTW, I wonder whether it could be possible to implement this stuff in the opensource driver...)

Regarding the status of the drivers for 12.10: https://lists.launchpad.net/ac100/msg00876.html .

I can't understand though whether the 12.10 drivers differ from/work better than the 12.04 ones.

If so, will it make sense to install the drivers from 12.10 in a 12.04 system? (If I'm inetersted in HDMI.)
